Philadelphia
Geological Society Field Trip, May 18, 2013
Led by Dr. LeeAnn Srogi,
West Chester University
IMPORTANT! IF POSSIBLE BRING A HARD HAT
Wear sturdy shoes
Bring LUNCH
We’ll provide some lunchtime refreshments
Meet at Dyer Quarry, parking lot for the office, at 9:30-9:45am on Saturday 18
May.
Mr. Eric Friend, geologist and quarry manager, will lead us on a tour of the
aggregate quarry.
For directions, you can Google or MapQuest:
Dyer Quarry Inc
1275 Rock Hollow Rd, Birdsboro, PA
(610) 582-6010 • dyerquarry.com
After the quarry tour, Eric will let us use the office training center to have
lunch and a rest stop, and he will show us the rock cores from the next hill
south (they are expanding the quarry). Everyone should bring their lunch.
At about noon, we will travel to the Pennsylvania Granite Quarry.
Mr. Glenn Rimel, the quarry manager, will meet us
about 12:30pm and give us a tour of the dimension stone quarry.
For directions, you can Google or MapQuest:
Pennsylvania Granite Corporation (owned by Rock of Ages)
410 Trythall Rd, Elverson, PA
(610) 286-0094 • rockofages.com
There isn’t much space to park at the second quarry, so if members can
carpool that would help. Also any quarry-friendly vehicles that would hold
several people would be good (if possible).
Things to note: the contrast between the aggregate and the dimension stone
operations, and the rocks are fabulous!
We plan to be done about 2:30pm.
